Menstrual Pattern of Reproductive Age Group Women and Their Association with Thyroid Dysfunction

Background and Aim: Thyroid hormones play a significant role in physiology of normal reproductive system. dysfunction is extremely common women effect certain metabolic process menstrual irregularities. The present study aimed to assess the pattern age group their association with thyroid dysfunction. Methodology: This cross-sectional was carried out on 140 irregularities who were assessed for Department Obstetrics Gynecology outpatient Sindh Government Hospital Karachi, January 2021 December 2021. All between (15-45 years) enrolled. Women history taking anti-thyroid drugs excluded from study. Individual age, level, type recorded. ELISA technique used determination hormones. stimulating hormone (TSH) levels, serum free triiodothyronine (T3), thyroxine (T4) assessment SPSS version 25 data analysis. Results: overall mean population 27.8 ± 5.3 years an range 15 45 years. age-wise distribution patients as follows; 15-25 n=67, (47.8%), 26-35 n=46 (32.9%), 36-45 n=27 (19.3%). prevalence 22% (n=31). clinical presentations patterns Irregular menstruation 66.4% (n=93), Oligomenorrhea 4.3% (n=6), Menorrhagia 15.7% (n=22), Polymenorrhea 7.9% (n=11), Metropathia 6.4% (n=9). Of total 31 women, incidence normal, hypothyroidism hyperthyroidism 82 (58.6%), 12 (38.7%) 1 (1.4%) respectively. median TSH level 2 mIU/L IQR (1.0-4.0). T3 T4 2.83±1.13 pg/ml 1.38±1.1 ng/dl Conclusion: found that most prevalent among different presentation menorrhagia, polymenorrhea, oligomenorrhea..
